The Movement for African New Independence and Democracy (MANIDEM) today issued a clarion call to the Cameroonian people, urging them to rise to the historic occasion and unite behind the main force for change in the 2025 presidential election: Prof. Maurice Kamto.
For decades, MANIDEM has remained steadfast in its belief in the nationalist struggle, carrying the torch of resistance against injustice, arbitrariness, and the hijacking of the nation’s destiny. “Freedom is not begged for — it is seized,” the statement declares, invoking the sacrifices of past generations who fought for liberation.
In its official communiqué, MANIDEM affirmed that this moment demands more than individual ambition or political ego. Rather, it demands collective action and strategic unity to end the current regime and prevent another seven years of stagnation.
“We could have, like others, fielded our own candidate, gathered a few supporters, and achieved a respectable score. But our goal is not mere participation. Our goal is change,” the release states.
“Voting for other alternatives — no matter how sincere — is allowing the regime to stay in power. And Cameroon can no longer afford that.”
Highlighting Prof. Kamto’s central role in the national political debate over the past seven years, MANIDEM described him as the figure around whom the people — in their divisions and hopes — have structured the country’s political scene. The party acknowledged that unity behind the leading force for change is essential to defeat the incumbent regime and to give the Cameroonian people a real chance at an alternative future.
MANIDEM explicitly endorsed Prof. Kamto not out of personality cult, but because he embodies the greatest popular momentum for change in Cameroon.
The statement concluded:
“We have done our part. Now it’s up to you — the people standing tall — to do yours. The world is watching us. History is waiting for us.”
